Celebrations: Love Your Pet Day

Because I Do by Anna Coffman

Because I do

Hey, little red dog, come here.
Come sit here, beside me.
Put your tawny head on my knee,
Little red dog of mine.
Let me rub behind your little ears.
Let me scratch beneath your chin.

You've always been my little red dog,
Haven't you, my sweet child?
You've always been my furry shoulder
To cry on when I needed it most.
You've always been the one
Who makes me smile.

Have I ever told I love you?

Now, come here, little black cat.
Come lie here, on my lap.
Put your little motor to work,
Little black cat of mine.
Let me scratch your neck.
Let me rub your cheek.

You've always been my little black cat,
Haven't you, my special child?
You've always shown me I was loved
When I need it most.
You've always been the one
To show I was appreciated.

Have I ever told I love you?

Please, come to me, little sweet rabbit.
Come rest here, in my arms.
Relax your fast heart,
Little sweet rabbit of mine.
Let me stroke your ears.
Let me rub your head.

You've always been my little sweet rabbit,
Haven't you, my kind child?
You've always been my companion
In hard times or harsh winters.
You've always been my baby
When I needed to be shown I was depended on.

Have I ever told you I loved you?
